Spain's Soup-salad Gazpacho becomes an American
food fashion
By Somer Flaherty
August,
2008 - According to James Beard Cookbook of the
Year award winner Clifford A. Wright, gazpacho
is a liquid salad from the southern Spanish
region of Andalusia, is the area’s best known
dish, and probably originated as a soup during
the time when Spain was part of the Islamic
world in the Middle Ages...

Marin winebars
offer class by the glass
01/16/2008
"A wine bar is very social," agrees Maika
Llorens, who founded Sabor of Spain in San
Rafael, a combination wine bar, Spanish
restaurant and Spanish wine and food emporium.
"We get a lot of people who stop in for a
glass of wine before they go home from work.
They come in on their own and meet other
people. A wine bar is a good place to make new
acquaintances."
Sometimes it has a restaurant attached to
it, but you can be sure a successful wine
bar's focus will be on featuring boutique or
rare vintages produced in small batches. It's
typical to find at least a few hundred to
purchase by the bottle and a minimum of 10 to
as many as 40 to sample by the glass.
A good wine bartender will do a lot more
than just pour what you order because most
wine bars are the antithesis of corporate
eating and drinking establishments. They are
owned by individuals or couples who open such
a business for the pleasure of working the bar
and socializing with the customers....

of Spain is anything but an ordinary restaurant.

to bring a slice of her native Spain to downtown
San Rafael. And after only two years, it’s
already won several awards, including 2007 Small
Business of the Year from the Marin County Board
of Supervisors and San Rafael Chamber of
Commerce and 2007 Best New Restaurant and Best

SPAIN REIGNS

Fresh talent and modern
techniques in emerging regions have rejuvenated
the Spanish winemaking industry
Leslie Sbrocco, Special to The Chronicle -
Thursday, February 10, 2005
When it comes to wine, Spain has been compared
to a sleeping giant. As the country with the
most land devoted to growing wine grapes in the
world, giant is a fitting term. The sleeping
part, however, is passe. This giant is wide
awake and flexing its muscles.
